About us:
ADROIT is an Erasmus+ KA220 Higher Education cooperation project designed to strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions to respond to the accelerating impact of artificial intelligence and digital transformation on teaching and learning. Across Europe, universities and higher education providers are increasingly confronted with the challenge of integrating AI-driven tools, digital platforms and data-informed practices into educational environments that were not originally designed to accommodate such rapid technological change. While digital innovation offers significant opportunities for enhancing learning outcomes, pedagogical flexibility and institutional efficiency, many educators and learners report uncertainty regarding how these technologies can be used effectively, ethically and inclusively. ADROIT emerges as a structured European response to this challenge, aiming to support higher education systems in navigating digital transformation with confidence, responsibility and pedagogical integrity.
The project is grounded in the understanding that artificial intelligence is not merely a technical development but a transformative force that reshapes how knowledge is produced, delivered and assessed. AI influences curriculum design, teaching methodologies, learner engagement and academic integrity, raising important questions related to ethics, transparency, data protection and equality of access. In many higher education contexts, educators lack structured opportunities to develop the competences required to critically engage with these issues or to translate technological potential into meaningful educational practice. ADROIT addresses this gap by promoting a holistic approach that combines digital skills development with critical reflection, ethical awareness and learner-centred pedagogical design.

At its core, ADROIT seeks to support higher education educators and learners in developing the knowledge and capacities required to work effectively within AI-enhanced learning environments. The project focuses on strengthening educators’ digital and pedagogical competences, enabling them to integrate AI-related tools into teaching practices in ways that enhance learning rather than replace human judgement. At the same time, ADROIT equips learners with critical digital skills that allow them to understand how AI systems function, assess their implications and engage with technology as informed and responsible participants in academic and professional contexts. This dual focus ensures that innovation in higher education remains human-centred and aligned with academic values.
ADROIT adopts a collaborative and transnational methodology that brings together higher education institutions, research-oriented organisations and innovation-focused partners with complementary expertise. Through joint research activities, co-creation processes and iterative testing, the partnership develops educational frameworks, training materials and learner modules that are grounded in real institutional needs. This collaborative approach ensures that project outputs are academically robust, pedagogically relevant and adaptable across diverse higher education settings. Throughout its implementation, ADROIT places strong emphasis on quality assurance, stakeholder engagement and evidence-based design.
Across its duration, the project implements a structured sequence of activities that reflect its commitment to sustainable impact. These include the development of conceptual frameworks for AI readiness in higher education, capacity-building activities for educators, the creation of learner-centred educational modules and the deployment of digital resources that support reflective and experiential learning. Transnational meetings, pilot implementations and continuous feedback mechanisms ensure that the project remains responsive to emerging challenges and institutional realities. All resources produced by ADROIT are designed with long-term usability in mind and are made available as open educational resources to support wider uptake beyond the project partnership.
Ultimately, ADROIT aims to contribute to the modernisation of European higher education by supporting institutions in embedding digital innovation in ways that are pedagogically sound, ethically responsible and socially inclusive. By strengthening digital readiness at both educator and learner levels, the project supports higher education institutions in fulfilling their role as drivers of innovation, critical thinking and democratic values in an increasingly digital society. Through cooperation, shared knowledge and open access to resources, ADROIT seeks to leave a lasting legacy that extends beyond its formal duration and contributes to a resilient and future-oriented European higher education landscape.
